Who are you, and what do you do?
My name is Jelani Thompson, but my artist name is Noah Bility. I’m a graphic artist, rapper, and photographer.
Each medium holds a special place in my heart. They represent different periods in my life while still being in practice today. Currently, photography occupies the most time for me. It’s been a blessing to capture moments and share them with people. Giving them a different view of themselves and the space around them.
What forms of media have influenced you the most?
Since I do music myself, I would have to say that influences me the most. People often use the term ‘the soundtrack to life.’ I feel as though that term holds weight because music encompasses so much emotion. For me that’s where the inspiration lies. Whether it’s during a shoot or looking over photos when I’m home, I can always put a song to the images.
What hardware / software do you use?
For my photography, I use a mirrorless Sony a3000 with a fixed 1.8 50mm lens. It’s considered an entry level camera, but the combination of the lightweight body and sharp lens has given me incredibly high quality images. Makes the editing process very easy.
The editing process for my images is done all on my phone. I have an HTC One loaded with VSCO Cam, Snapseed, and Touch Retouch. These are all mobile apps I highly recommend for any level photographer. Every image of mine that is up on display has been run through my phone. The power of technology is something else.
What would be your dream creative setup?
Alone. Not to sound like a loner or anything like that. I prefer to be alone while creating for the sake of keeping my space sacred.
No outside influence can impose until I’m ready for the work to be presented.
