Who are you, and what do you do?

My name is Andy Martin, I am an animator, illustrator and music maker. I create short, funny animations with a musical sensibility using 2D and stop motion techniques.

I’ve made animated shorts featuring a galaxy of planets, a guy trying to take a selfie, and a film director with a massive ego.

What forms of media have influenced you the most?

TV. I think the stuff I used to watch as a kid (Bagpuss, Bananaman, Danger Mouse) have had a massive influence on the type of stuff I want to make now. I’d love to create a TV series that has the same affect on a new generation.

What hardware / software do you use?

I work on a Mac with a Cintiq. On it I use Photoshop, After Effects and Dragon Stop Motion for animation and Logic for music/sound. I also use pencil, paper, plasticine, wire and cardboard quite a lot – as you can see in this making of video for my latest film.

What would be your dream creative setup?

I have a room in my house that is my studio. It’s split equally between visual stuff and sound stuff (see attached image) which is the place where I do most of my work.
